Флаг Нарьян-Мара утверждён 31 мая 2001 года. Полотнище флага красное, вдоль нижней кромки проходит синяя полоса с выщербленным верхнем краем. Ширина синей полосы - 1/4 ширины флага.
В центре флага изображены элементы городского герба - две рыбы и голова оленя.
Проект флага разработан и утверждён с помощью Союза Геральдистов России (Константин Моченов; г. Химки).
